Which direction to follow?
Je voulais prendre un peu de recule pour écrire ce billet…OK j’avoue, j’ai pris plus que mon temps. Heure d’hiver à la noix et pied en vrac aidant, je me permets de vous donner quelques nouvelles et de revenir sur ce moment délicat qu’est le retour après une belle année de voyage.
Alors tout d’abord, Mayac va bien. Comme moi, elle vieillit un peu et il faut une peu plus de doigté pour changer les vitesses. Mais on s’est fait de bonnes virés ensemble en France et en Allemagne. C’est important pour nous deux de ne pas perdre completement le rythme. Je vais également les 2 tiers de l’année avec elle au taf.
Le travail, deuxième point. J’ai mis en tout 6 mois avant de reprendre le travail. Ces 6 mois ne sont pas forcement faciles car il faut répondre à pas mal de questions:
- Où je veux travailler? France? Allemagne? Méditerranée?
- Salarié ou monter son entreprise?
- Changer de métier?
- Comment dois-je me vendre après une année sur un vélo? (ca se vend bien en fait!)
- …
Ma famille et amis m’ont bien entouré pendant ces 6 mois et j’étais également très content de pouvoir passer un peu plus qu’une semaine de vacances avec eux.
Mes anciens collègues et contacts m’ont permis de retrouver assez vite un bon travail dans une équipe sympa à Munich. Au final, cela s’est fait de facon assez simple et au bout de 2 mois de travail, j’ai repris quasiment le meme rythme qu’avant mon voyage: rugby, bière et un peu d’électronique 😉 Je pense tout de meme que j’ai eu beaucoup chance!
Après ce n’est pas forcement tous les jours facile de rester derrière un écran à 30cm quand on a passé une année avec un horizon de 20km. J’étais à Nante, il y a un mois, pour le départ de bons potes qui vont voyager autour du monde à la voile pendant 3 ans. J’avoue que je me serais bien planqué dans une soute de Djerpi!
Entre joie de la routine du quotidien et la passion du voyage, (re)trouver son équilibre est toujours un défi!

Keep cycling snowing or not!
Ich wollte eine bißchen Zeit nehmen, um dieses Artikel abzufassen… OK, es ist wahr, ich war ein bißchen faul. Aber mit einem Fuß halb-kaputt und dieser verdammten Winterzeit, ich habe nicht besser zu tun, als über diese öfter schwierige Nachreiseszeit zu schreiben.
Vor allem geht Mayac gut! Mein Fahrrad ist zwar, wie ich, nicht junger geworden und ein paar Gänge sind schwieriger zu wechseln. Aber wir haben zusammen schöne Radtour durch Frankreich und Deutschland wieder gemacht. Es ist sehr bedeutend, diese Gemeinsamkeit zu halten. Wir gehen auch sehr oft zur Arbeit zusammen.
Zweite Punkte “Arbeit”. Es gab 6 Monate zwischen das Ende meiner Radtour und meinen ersten Arbeitstag. Diese Monate sind eigentlich nicht so einfach denn man muss viele Entscheidung treffen:
- Wo will ich wieder arbeiten? Frankreich? Deutschland? Mittelsmeer?
- Ganz ander Beruf/Aktivität oder wie vorher?
- Selbständig oder Angestellte?
- Wie soll ich diese freie Jahr “verkaufen”? (Es ist sehr einfach!)
- …
Meine Familie und meine Freunde waren sehr hilfreich. Vielen Dank! Ich war auch sehr froh wieder mehrere Wochen im Nancy zu geniessen. Sonst, danke meine ehemaligen Kollegen und Kontakt, habe ich schnell eine gute Stelle im einem sympatischen Team wieder gefunden. Am Schluß war es relativ einfach und nach 2 Monate hatte ich die selbe Routine wie vor meiner Radtour: Rugby, Bier mit Freunden und ein paar Ding in Beziehung zu Elektronik 😉 Ich habe sicher Gluck gehabt!
Dann es ist nicht immer einfach 30cm vor einem Bildschirm zu bleiben als man einjahrelang einen 20km weit Horizon gehabt hat. Ich war im Nantes vor ein Monat, drei Kompel haben ein 3jahrelang weltweit Segelreise angefangt. Ich gebe zu, dass ich auch gern im Schiff geblieben wäre.
Zwischen Freude von einem bequemen Alltagstrott und die Leidenschafft von Reisen, Enteckungen, ist es immer eine Herausforderung seine Balance (wieder)zu finden!

I would like to think a little bit before writing this post… OK, I took more than my time. But with the winter time and my small ankle’s sprain, I can finally give you some news and come back on the special time post sabbatical.
First, Mayac is still going fine, of course, as I do, she is slowly but surely getting older and you need sometime to be patient to change to higher gear. However we did some nice week road trip in France and Germany. It is important to keep good habits. I also go almost every 2 days at work with her.
Work, second big topic. I took in all 6 month between my last day on the bike and my first at desk. These 6 months are not really easy because we ask itself a lot of fundamental questions:
- Where do I want to work? France? Germany? Close of the Mediterranean coast?
- Should I create my small business or just be a employee?
- Should I totally change of business?
- How should I explain that I took a year “just” to bike? (Actually it is not a problem!)
- …
Family and friends were close during these 6 months and I was very happy to spend more than one week as in vacation. I liked this time been back in Nancy with them. Thanks my ex-colleagues and contacts, I found quickly a good job in Munich in a nice team. Finally, it was quite easy and after 2 months at work, I feel just like if I would never left Munich with my old routine being back: rugby; beer and some electronicss staff;-) I am realist and I can say that I had luck!
But to be honest, it is not always easy to stay all the day in front his computer when you were one year long with a far and beautiful horizon. One month ago, I was in Nantes to say good bye to good friends who are making a 3 year long trip around the world on a sailboat: Djerpi. I have to confess that I would love stay on board with them!
Between delight of the daily routine and the passion of traveling, to find is own balance is always a challenge!
